II Winter International Olympic Games

11 - 19 February 1928

464 athletes (including 26 female ones) of 25 nations competed at the Games. Totally 14 sets of medals had been played for in 7 sports. 
Athletes of Argentine, Germany, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Mexico, Netherlands, Romania, Estonia and Japan made their first appearance at the Winter Olympics. 
The II Olympic Winter Games were officially opened by President of Switzerland Edmund Schulthess. 

WINNER MEDALS 
OBVERSE: a dancing skater in the center surrounded by snowflakes. 
REVERSE: five Olympic rings over the inscription in French “II Jeux Olympiques D’Hiver St. Moritz 1928” (English: “II Olympic Winter Games, St.Moritz, 1928”) between two stylized olive branches. 
Initials of the designer’s name (Arnold Hünerwadel), M and H, are engraved on the left and on the right of the center. 

COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL 
OBVERSE: the Goddess of Victory is standing on a sledge pulled by two frisky horses, and carrying an olive branch, with high mountains in the background. 
The lower part depicts the Olympic rings and artist’s signature in French: “Milo Martin”, under a horizontal line. 
REVERSE: the inscription “II Jeux es Olympiques d’Hiver. Saint Moritz 1928” (English: “II-nd Winter Olympic Games. Saint Moritz 1928”) over a stylized olive branch.
